what's going on here

The verse that sits as the footer of this site is taken from the book of Ecclesiastes. I first read Ecclesiastes in full a couple years back, and it left an indelible mark on my perception of life. It roughly posits an existentialist understanding of living, wherein there are rules to follow, but following those rules guarantees you nothing in this life – only in the unknowable ‘next’ might we get to learn the fruits of such things.

It also speaks of the failures of men, in their attempts at growing wealthy or wise; it speaks too of wickedness and vanity (admittedly quite a lot). But it also reaffirms one particularly important thing, for me at least – of being merry. And if you are living within the rules as best as one can be glad to do so, with what you have been given. There is a lot to be hopeful about, and fun to be had.

This site, therefore, takes that lesson from Ecclesiastes, and distils it – it is for me to have fun, and ponder on the mysteries of life in an unserious fashion, amidst other things. Hence the footer below – it’s a reminder to stay aligned with that singular priority of fun, and not labour over the book-ness or erudition of my own words. Such thinking can be pretty paralyzing.

Most of what is here is earnest, sincere, and I hope that any person who stumbles across this place can leave imbibed with a sense of fun (or at least, my sense of it). However that might feel, I can’t be certain, nor do I seek to achieve this directly – it is more of a secondary hope that adds momentum to my own explorations and adventures.

So, please go look around, and use your brain whilst doing so. Remember that this is just a website, that all things under the sun have been before and will be again, and that I am writing with no knowledge of much at all. You may be better off for having considered these things by the time you arrive at some of my more uncertain ramblings.

Anyway, if you’d like to let me know about your thoughts on all this or whatever’s on here, please leave a comment on the comments page. Other than that, if you wish to know more about me (a person), I also have Twitter and Instagram, but I’ll leave it to you to find those. It shouldn’t be hard. Bye!
